Monday 7/9/2001 Arlington's Castilleja wins Player of the Week award The Player of the Week award in the Vaughan League goes to Trenton's Joaquin Broomfield this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .583 with 8 RBI and slugged 1.250 in 24 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. While compiling an on base percentage of .420, Joaquin hit .346 and slugged .685. He has collected 51 runs batted in this year. He's 9th in the Vaughan League in batting! Arlington's first baseman Kip Castilleja had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Gindin League Player of the Week. He hit .500 with 9 RBI and slugged 1.038 in 26 at bats.
Monday 7/2/2001 Utah's Calkins wins Player of the Week award The Player of the Week award in the Vaughan League goes to Trenton's Joaquin Broomfield this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .591 with 15 RBI and slugged 1.545 in 22 at bats. The Gindin League's best player of the week was Utah's Jeff Calkins, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. In 27 at bats he hit .519 with 6 HR and 13 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Calkins has walked 31 times this year and posts a .394 OBP. While batting .330, 106 for 321, he has driven in 66 runs.
Sunday 7/1/2001 Jones and Greear receive Pitcher of the Month award Rockville's Danilo Jones had a terrific June, and it earned him the Vaughan League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 1.80 helped him to a 5-0 record in June. He worked 45 innings, striking out 30 hitters while walking 21. Danilo pitched a shutout as well. His ERA of 3.14 helped him to a 10-2 record this year. He struck out 86 and walked 58 in 123.1 innings. He has 4 complete games and one shutout. He's 1st in the Vaughan League in wins! Robert Greear pitched like a legend in June, and the Gindin League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His record of 3-0 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 26 innings of work he allowed just 19 hits while striking out 26, compiling an ERA of just 1.47. This season Greear compiled an ERA of 2.40, going 7-2 in 15 starts. He fanned 66 while giving up 69 hits in 82.1 innings.
Sunday 7/1/2001 Bohm (MIL) and Berglund (HOL) win monthly award It's the 1st time that the Vaughan League Batter of the Month award goes to Milwaukee's shortstop Timothy Bohm. He hit .377 with 36 RBI and slugged .632 in 114 at bats. This year Bohm drove in 79 and scored 52 runs while batting .305 with 19 longballs. He's 2nd in the Vaughan League in RBIs and 7th in homeruns! It's the 1st time that the Gindin League Batter of the Month award goes to Hollywood's leftfielder Richard Berglund. He hit .404 with 41 RBI and slugged .982 in 109 at bats. While compiling an on base percentage of .407, Richard hit .355 and slugged .740. He has collected 89 runs batted in this year. He's 2nd in the Gindin League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
Wednesday 6/27/2001 Britt Cormack drills 6 hits HOLLYWOOD - 'You know, in batting practice I didn't really feel that comfortable about my stroke today, but baseball is more than hitting. Then, when you're not trying to force a hit, you slug them in droves,' says Britt Cormack after his 6 hit game, which Long Beach won 51-5 against Hollywood. He collected singles in the 1st (one RBI) , in the 3rd (one RBI) , in the 4th (one RBI) , in the 5th , in the 6th inning (one RBI) and in the 7th inning (one RBI). Britt did drive in 5 while scoring 6 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .358.
Wednesday 6/27/2001 Long Beach's Thomas Siple ropes seven hits HOLLYWOOD - Thomas Siple punished Hollywood's pitching today, collecting seven hits in 9 AB. That definitely helped Long Beach, they won the game 51 to 5. He collected singles in the 1st , in the 2nd inning (one RBI) , in the 3rd , in the 5th inning (one RBI) , in the 6th (one RBI) , in the 7th and in the 7th (two RBIs). Thomas did drive in 6 while scoring 4 runs on his own. His 7 hit performance increases his batting average to .234.
Wednesday 6/27/2001 Leonard Mills punishes Hollywood with six hits HOLLYWOOD - On Wednesday, Long Beach's third baseman Leonard Mills displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Hollywood, punishing their pitchers with six hits. A 378 feet drive to right-center marked his 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Richard Mulhall in the 1st inning. His 3rd hit, off Bryan Bartling in the 6th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left-center. He had singles in the 1st inning , in the 7th inning (one RBI) , in the 7th inning (one RBI) and in the 8th . Leonard did drive in 5 while scoring 6 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 40 hits in 112 at bats, resulting in a .357 batting average. The final score of the game was 51-5.

That definitely helped Long Beach, they won the game 51 to 5. In the 1st inning he unloaded a GRAND SLAM off Richard Mulhall. He collected singles in the 4th (one RBI) , in the 6th , in the 6th (one RBI) , in the 7th (one RBI) , in the 7th (one RBI) and in the 8th . Scott did drive in 8 while scoring 7 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 106 hits in 311 at bats, resulting in a .341 batting average.
Monday 6/25/2001 Chisholm and Youngberg win Player of the Week award It's the 1st time that the Vaughan League Player of the Week award goes to Chesapeake's first baseman Gary Chisholm. Gary went 13 for 22 (.591), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 9 RBI. Shawn Youngberg from Orlando wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Gindin League. Shawn pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .588 with 3 and 7 RBI while slugging 1.353.
Friday 6/22/2001 Arden Krueger fires NO-NO against Utah UTAH - With his best stuff going, Long Beach's Arden Krueger overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. Utah had no chance, getting NO hits against the right-hander. Krueger (5-7) struck out 6 and walked 2, throwing 60 of 105 pitches for strikes. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped. What a day!' Ralph Teachout provided Long Beach with the offense Krueger needed as he got 1 hit in 4 AB. Long Beach scored 2 runs on 11 hits.
Tuesday 6/19/2001 Milwaukee's Timothy Bohm slams three taters CAPITAL CITY - Timothy Bohm powered Milwaukee to a 18-9 win over Capital City. He did it in style by homering three times. His 1st blast, a two-run homerun off Aaron Lehoux in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 360 feet from home plate. His 2nd shot, off Aaron Lehoux in the 4th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. A 341 feet drive to right field marked his 3rd bomb, a three-run homerun off Rodney Tilman in the 7th inning. Timothy finished 5 for 6, scoring FIVE runs with 8 RBI.
Tuesday 6/19/2001 Robert Hipp dominates Columbus, throws NO-HITTER PASADENA - Robert Hipp had his best stuff going, and Columbus hitters were chanceless. Pasadena's right-hander fired a NO-NO, his 1st shutout of the season. Jonah Hubbert spoiled the bid for a perfect game when he walked with 2 away in the 5th inning. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Hipp (4-2) struck out 6 and walked 3, throwing 61 of 102 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Pasadena was rightfielder Robert Curtis, he finished 1 for 4, hitting a homerun, with 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 5-0.
Monday 6/18/2001 Cadwell (MON) and Reid (SHR) win P.O.W. award The Vaughan League's best player of the week was Montana's Michael Cadwell, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. He hit .632 with 10 RBI and slugged 1.158 in 19 at bats. The Gindin League's best player of the week was Shreveport's Micheal Reid, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .556 and hit .520, while driving in 8 runs.
Tuesday 6/12/2001 Jerry Gabaldon shuts out Richmond on 2 hits VIRGINIA - It was a great day for Virginia's right-hander Jerry Gabaldon. The 26-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Richmond on Tuesday. Gabaldon (3-5) struck out an astounding 15 and walked 3, throwing 71 of 129 pitches for strikes. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Garrett Mumford provided Virginia with the offense Gabaldon needed as he finished with 1 hit in 4 AB, homering once, and collecting 2 RBI. Virginia improved it's record to 32-30, scoring 4 runs on 9 hits.
Monday 6/11/2001 McIntosh (MON) and Berglund (HOL) win P.O.W. award It's the 1st time that the Vaughan League Player of the Week award goes to Montana's shortstop Gregory McIntosh. In 26 at bats he hit .423 with 4 HR and 16 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. The Gindin League Player of the Week award goes to Richard Berglund, Hollywood's starting leftfielder. In 28 at bats he hit .500 with 8 HR and 14 RBI. Richard is hitting .354 this year, with 92 hits in 260 at bats. He has driven in 70 runs, slugging .735. He's 2nd in the Gindin League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
Monday 6/4/2001 Richard Berglund parks four against Orlando HOLLYWOOD - Richard Berglund was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Hollywood to a 12-7 win over Orlando by homering four times. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated 406 at feet, cleared the wall in left-center. In the 5th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Craig Savage. His 3rd shot, off Royce Holl in the 6th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. A 390 feet drive to right-center marked his 4th bomb, a two-run homerun off Paul Osborne in the 8th inning. Overall he finished with 4 hits in 5 AB, with FOUR runs scored and collecting 7 RBI.
Monday 6/4/2001 Donald Mays (DAK) will miss 5-6 weeks DAKOTA - When it rains, it pours. Dakota's ace Donald Mays will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Orono where he left the field in the 4th inning. Mays was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Disc Back. His ERA of 3.08 helped him to a 3-4 record this year. He struck out 53 and walked 20 in 79 innings. Donald has pitched one shutout and one complete game.

He had an on base percentage of .500 and hit .458, while driving in 9 runs. The Gindin League Player of the Week award goes to Richard Berglund, Hollywood's starting leftfielder. He had an on base percentage of .483 and hit .423, while driving in 11 runs. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 10 game hitting streak right now.
Friday 6/1/2001 Arlington's Kennedy named Pitcher of the Month John Santacruz pitched like a legend in May, and the Vaughan League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He started 5 games in May, going 4-0 and compiling an ERA of 2.08 in 34.2 innings. John fanned 25 hitters. This season Santacruz compiled an ERA of 3.06, going 5-2 in 10 starts. He fanned 46 while giving up 56 hits in 67.2 innings. Arlington's pitcher Aaron Kennedy is the Gindin League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in May. He had an ERA of just 1.00 in 36 innings of work in which he struck out 38 hitters. His record in May is 2-0. Opposing players hit .221 against Aaron this season. While posting an ERA of 2.62 he went 3-1 in 10 starts, fanning 72 and walking 31 hitters.
Friday 6/1/2001 Gatton (COL) and Miller (RIC) win monthly award Columbus' first baseman Carlos Gatton had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Vaughan League Batter of the Month. He had an on base percentage of .425 and hit .365, while driving in 34 runs. Gatton has hit for a .297 average this season. He has 23 extra base hits along with 117 total bases, resulting in a .600 slugging percentage. He's 1st in the Vaughan League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! It's the 1st time that the Gindin League Batter of the Month award goes to Richmond's second baseman Stefan Miller. He hit .409 with 32 RBI and slugged .782 in 110 at bats. This year Miller drove in 54 and scored 44 runs while batting .383 with 14 longballs. He's 4th in the Gindin League in batting, 4th in homeruns and 3rd in RBI!
Tuesday 5/29/2001 Columbia's Martin Lawrence unloads three times VIRGINIA - Columbia beat Virginia 7-3, but that was not the real story of the game. Martin Lawrence was, as he went deep three times. A pitch from Timothy Felipe in the 3rd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 424 feet from home plate in left field. In the 6th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Timothy Felipe. Number 3 in the 8th inning, a shot estimated 415 at feet, cleared the wall in left-center. Martin finished 5 for 5, scoring FOUR times with 4 RBI. In 166 career at bats, he has hit 7 homeruns and collected 32 RBI.
Monday 5/28/2001 Carl Storch pitches 1-hit shutout against Rockville CAPITAL CITY - It was a great day for Capital City's right-hander Carl Storch. The 24-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Rockville on Monday. Storch (5-6) struck out 5 and walked 4, throwing 55 of 98 pitches for strikes. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' The hitting star for Capital City was catcher Parker Riley, he stroked 1 hit in 3 AB, hitting a homerun, and collecting 3 RBI. Capital City scored 4 runs on 7 hits.
Monday 5/28/2001 Montana's Cadwell wins Player of the Week award The Vaughan League's best player of the week was Montana's Michael Cadwell, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Michael was on fire, hitting .526 with 3 HR and 5 RBI. It's the 1st time that the Gindin League Player of the Week award goes to Norfolk's centerfielder Kris Vargas. Kris pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .708 with 0 and 4 RBI while slugging 1.083.
Sunday 5/27/2001 Poughkeepsie has no chance in a 2-hitter by Dan Zalewski DAKOTA - Dan Zalewski, usually uneffective, had a great performance against Poughkeepsie on Sunday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Zalewski (3-3) fanned 3 and walked 4, throwing 104 pitches. Bobby Bourget helped Zalewski at the plate, he finished 3 for 4, with three runs scored. Dakota scored 9 runs on 10 hits.
Saturday 5/26/2001 Antone Warnock (ESS) will miss 5-6 weeks ESSEX - Essex is without its right-hander Antone Warnock for at least 5-6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Raymon Burleson in a game against Ann Arbor. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Warnock was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. This season Warnock compiled an ERA of 2.38, going 5-2 in 10 starts. He fanned 53 while giving up 45 hits in 68 innings.
Friday 5/25/2001 Steven Sova blanks Greenbelt with a 2-hitter CHESAPEAKE - Greenbelt's offense is good, but Chesapeake's Steven Sova was even better. The southpaw fired his 2nd shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. Michael Lind spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he tripled with two outs in the 5th inning. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Sova (7-1) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 6. Chesapeake's centerfielder Gene Wasserman got 4 hits in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Sova. Chesapeake improved it's record to 21-25, scoring 6 runs on 11 hits.
Tuesday 5/22/2001 James Okane on fire, hits for cycle TRENTON - Trenton's third baseman James Okane accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Dakota, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .227! His 1st hit was a triple off Jason Osborne in the 2nd inning. Number 2 in the 4th inning, a shot estimated 396 at feet, cleared the wall in left-center. A single in the 6th off Jason Osborne accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit was a double off Silas Baxter in the 8th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! James scored 2 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! He now has a total of 34 hits this season, accounting for a .227 batting average. 4 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including James. On 5/12/2001, Steve Bettencourt was the last player to hit for the cycle.
Monday 5/21/2001 Gatton and Stambaugh win Player of the Week award Carlos Gatton from Columbus wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Vaughan League. Gatton helped his team with an average of .421 and 10 RBI in 19 at bats. The Gindin League's best player of the week was Las Vegas' Clarence Stambaugh, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Clarence was on fire, hitting .640 with 2 HR and 7 RBI.
Monday 5/14/2001 Tiffany (GRN) and Toy (ORL) win P.O.W. award The Vaughan League's best player of the week was Greenbelt's David Tiffany, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .548 and hit .481, while driving in 10 runs. While compiling an on base percentage of .431, David hit .331 and slugged .669. He has collected 35 runs batted in this year. He's 5th in the Vaughan League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! It's the 1st time that the Gindin League Player of the Week award goes to Orlando's rightfielder Jeffery Toy. He hit .571 with 14 RBI and slugged .929 in 28 at bats. His season features a batting average of .341 (43 hits in 126 AB), 10 doubles, no triples and 4 taters. Toy collected 27 RBI and 15 runs as well.
Sunday 5/13/2001 Mark Smolen blanks Virginia with a 1-hitter VIRGINIA - It was a great day for Santa Cruz's right-hander Mark Smolen. The 28-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Virginia on Sunday. With two outs in the 8th inning Jeffrey Berry singled to break up the no-hitter. Smolen (5-1) struck out 3 and walked none, throwing 61 of 103 pitches for strikes. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' The hitting star for Santa Cruz was centerfielder Aaron Mak, he finished 3 for 5, hitting a double, with 3 RBI. Santa Cruz scored 5 runs on 10 hits.
Sunday 5/13/2001 Donald Mays dominates Trenton, gives up just 2 hits DAKOTA - It was a great day for Dakota's right-hander Donald Mays. The 23-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Trenton on Sunday. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Mays (3-3) struck out 8 and issued 2 BB, throwing 63 of 118 pitches for strikes. Bobby Bourget helped Mays at the plate, he got 2 hits in 3 AB, with 2 RBI. Dakota improved it's record to 17-19, scoring 4 runs on 7 hits.
Saturday 5/12/2001 Steve Bettencourt uncorks cycle hits against Long Beach SHREVEPORT - Shreveport's leftfielder Steve Bettencourt accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Long Beach, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .358! His 1st hit was a double off Jacinto Canada in the 1st inning. A pitch from Jacinto Canada in the 3rd inning left his bat for a RBI double. A 381 feet drive to left field marked his 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off Jacinto Canada in the 5th inning. Hit number 4 followed in the 6th inning, a two-run triple. A single in the 8th off Daniel Haynes accounted for his 5th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Steve did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 39 hits in 109 at bats, resulting in a .358 batting average. He's now the 3rd player in league history to hit for the cycle! On 4/30/2001, Jeffery Gordon was the last player to hit for the cycle.
Friday 5/11/2001 Long Beach's Joe Santos pounds six hits SHREVEPORT - Long Beach's second baseman Joe Santos accomplished a difficult feat in a 14-4 win over Shreveport, drilling six hits to improve his career batting average to .269! Number 2 in the 3rd inning accounted for a double. His 4th hit, a three-run homerun off Stacey Martinez in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 406 feet from home plate. A 432 feet drive to left field marked his 5th hit, a solo homerun off Aaron Boucher in the 8th inning. He had singles in the 1st (one RBI) , in the 5th and in the 9th inning (one RBI). Joe scored 3 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! He is hitting .269 this season, with 8 HR and 26 RBI. Long Beach improved it's record to 19-16, scoring 14 runs on 21 hits.
Monday 5/7/2001 Cadwell and Gordon win Player of the Week award Michael Cadwell from Montana wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Vaughan League. Michael was on fire, hitting .478 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. His season numbers are: .342 AVG, 38 hits, 6 doubles, one triple and 7 bombs, along with 19 RBI and 20 runs scored. Jeffery Gordon wins his 1st Player of the Week award. Gindin League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Jeffery was on fire, hitting .600 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. His season numbers are: .416 AVG, 42 hits, 15 doubles, 2 triples and 6 longballs, along with 22 RBI and 20 runs scored. He's 5th in the Gindin League in batting!
Wednesday 5/2/2001 Douglas Hensley quiets Albany bats with shutout ALBANY - Douglas Hensley had an unexpectedly great performance against Albany on Wednesday, pitching a 1-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Roberto Topping singled with no outs in the 5th inning. Hensley (3-1) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 6. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Floyd Warburton helped Hensley at the plate, he stroked 1 hit in 3 AB, with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 5-0.
Tuesday 5/1/2001 Montana's Vasquez earns Pitcher of the Month award The best month of April in the Vaughan League certainly had Montana's left-hander Ruben Vasquez, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He went 4-0 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 1.80. He struck out 39 in 40 innings. Ruben pitched a shutout as well. Winner of this months Gindin League Pitcher of the Month award is Arlington's Les Ownby. He struck out 28 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 5-0 while pitching 28 innings. His ERA in April was 2.06.
Tuesday 5/1/2001 Batter of the Month award winners announced Chesapeake's catcher Jeff Kelley had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Vaughan League Batter of the Month. Jeff was on fire, hitting .429 with 6 homeruns and 33 RBI. The Gindin League Batter of the Month award goes to William Remy, Seminole's starting first baseman. William went 42 for 105 (.400), while hitting 11 HR and collecting 46 RBI.
Monday 4/30/2001 Jeffery Gordon punishes Santa Cruz with four hits, cycle SANTA CRUZ - San Jose's shortstop Jeffery Gordon accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Santa Cruz, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .395! Monday 4/30/2001 Bryan Leung turns in great performance against Albany ALBANY - Philadelphia's right-hander Bryan Leung didn't look unexperienced at all. The 19 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against Albany, recording his 2nd shutout of the season. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' Leung (3-0) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 1, throwing 115 pitches. Raymond Horowitz provided Philadelphia with the offense Leung needed as he got 1 hit in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, and collecting 2 RBI. Philadelphia scored 4 runs on 9 hits.
Monday 4/30/2001 Enyeart (PAS) and Calkins (UTA) win P.O.W. award The Player of the Week award in the Vaughan League goes to Pasadena's Timothy Enyeart this time, as the third baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Enyeart helped his team with an average of .500 and 8 RBI in 24 at bats. Utah's rightfielder Jeff Calkins had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Gindin League Player of the Week. In 24 at bats he hit .500 with 3 HR and 7 RBI.

Monday 4/23/2001 Davila (ANN) and Mayer (SAC) win P.O.W. award The Vaughan League Player of the Week award goes to Gary Davila, Ann Arbor's starting second baseman. He hit .560 with 5 RBI and slugged .800 in 25 at bats. Santa Cruz's shortstop Harry Mayer had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Gindin League Player of the Week. In 24 at bats he hit .583 with 5 HR and 13 RBI.
Friday 4/20/2001 Charles Foster pitches 2-hit shutout against Dakota MONTANA - Age doesn't matter. At least Montana's right-hander Charles Foster shares this opinion. The 37 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against Dakota, recording his 1st shutout of the season. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Foster (2-0) struck out 6 and walked 4, throwing 66 of 128 pitches for strikes. Barton Emrich helped Foster at the plate, he finished with 1 hit in 3 AB, homering once. The final score of the game was 2-0.
Tuesday 4/17/2001 Ruben Vasquez blanks Dakota with a 2-hitter DAKOTA - Ruben Vasquez had an unexpectedly great performance against Dakota on Tuesday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Vasquez (2-0) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 2, throwing 113 pitches. Montana's second baseman Lyle Dwyer finished with 1 hit in 4 AB, with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Vasquez. Montana improved it's record to 8-6, scoring 6 runs on 9 hits.
Monday 4/16/2001 Norman's Bork wins Player of the Week award The Vaughan League's best player of the week was Poughkeepsie's Matt Schenck, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He hit .467 with 10 RBI and slugged .967 in 30 at bats. Schenck has hit for a .420 average this season. He has 9 extra base hits along with 38 total bases, resulting in a .760 slugging percentage. He's 4th in the Vaughan League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 4th in RBI! The Player of the Week award in the Gindin League goes to Norman's Patrick Bork this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .552 and hit .538, while driving in 6 runs. This year Bork drove in 7 and scored 16 runs while batting .471 with 3 bombs. He's 4th in the Gindin League in batting!

Monday 4/9/2001 Norman's Prater wins Player of the Week award Jose Kearney from Poughkeepsie wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Vaughan League. Jose pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .593 with 0 and 11 RBI while slugging .815. Marcelino Prater from Norman wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Gindin League. In 25 at bats he hit .520 with 4 HR and 14 RBI. Marcelino managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week.

Monday 4/2/2001 Michael Blanton out for 6 weeks TRENTON - Trenton is without its ace Michael Blanton for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Roger Landin in a game against Philadelphia. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Bicep Muscle which will require surgery.
